Hebrews 11:1-3    Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for. By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. Hebrews 11:1-3    Now    What was "then"?    Hebrews 10:31-35    It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you stood your ground in a great contest in the face of suffering. Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated. You sympathized with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions. So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. faith is being sure of what we hope for    What is the "hope" that we are so sure of?    Psalm 42:11    Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. and certain of what we do not see.    What is it we do not see but are certain of?    2 Corinthians 4:18    So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. 1 Peter 1:8    Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, This is what the ancients were commended for.    Who are these ancients? The author will soon elaborate.    Hebrews 11:4,5,39    4 By faith Abel offered God a better sacrifice than Cain did. By faith he was commended as a righteous man, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith he still speaks, even though he is dead. 5 By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death; he could not be found, because God had taken him away. For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. 39 These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised. By faith    What will we do if we have faith? we understand that the universe was formed at God's command,    David understood this.    Psalm 33:6    By the word of the LORD were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth. so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.    What came first, the name of the being or the being?    Isaiah 40:26    Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these?
